Amanda and Caleb Thorson have become used to the emotional rollercoaster that comes with being small business owners. Twelve years running a photography studio has given them plenty of sleepless nights. And they're not alone.

Year 9 St Edmund's College student Thomas Norris has seen his share of close calls when it comes to pedestrians carelessly walking in front of a car. 

"Quite often I've seen pedestrians cross the road at the wrong time and we've nearly hit them," Thomas said.

ACT firefighters promoted to station officers

It's not every day you get to work with your best friends, but these 10 firefighters have spent the past 16 weeks doing exactly that. 

On Friday, 10 senior firefighters graduated to become station officers after a gruelling 16 weeks of training and work.
